Sorry but apples are not aphrodisiacs! However, they have always had a powerful symbolism at all times.
In Thomas Mallory’s La mort d’Arthur (1485), the apple is associated with the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. It is responsible for the death of five people.
In the XIXth century, the Grimm brothers wrote several tales where the apples had a magical and conflicting role. The most famous story was that of Snow White where the Apple not only causes her to fall into a deep sleep but also kindles love making it triumphant...
Always red in colour and often magical, the apple represents more than just a mere fruit in popular beliefs. It is also believed that the best magic wands were made from the wood of apple trees. (...)
