Watson and her family insist she is an experienced and capable sailor who has studied navigation, electronics and maritime safety procedures. Although she will sail solo and unassisted, she will be in constant contact with her support team via radio, e-mail and a blog. Watson sailed her pink, 34-foot (10-meter) yacht out of Sydney (...)

Sad apple...

Apple of love 5 October 2009
Pomme (apple in French) is also the protagonist of Pascal Lainé’s novel “La dentellière”.
Pomme is a young and ordinary hairdresser who falls in love with Aimery, a student at the École des Chartes. Too consumed by his own world, he misses out on this love and abandons the young girl. La dentellière was a roaring success among the masses (1.5 million copies sold on release), and was awarded the Prix Goncourt in 1974. Claude Goretta adapted the novel into a film in 1977. Pomme’s role was played by Isabelle Huppert. In the film, we see the heroine relentlessly biting into an apple as a reminder of her unrequited love that consumes her existence. http://www.purjus.net http://films.blog.lemonde.fr

Apple – an all time favourite...

The apple in all its states 20 July 2009
Apples are the most widely consumed fruit in the world... and undoubtedly the oldest!
They have always been a part of our daily existence. This is further reinforced by the following medieval recipe. Apples were already well known for their taste and greatly appreciated. http://www.crapaudine.com The turnip and apple “porez” is a sweet and creamy soup. The contrasting flavours of turnips, apples and honey give it a very fine taste. 4 cups of diced turnips 4 cups of peeled and deseeded apples 10 cups of water 1 cup of honey 1 pinch of salt 1 teaspoon of cinnamon 1 teaspoon of nutmeg 2 tablespoons of butter Mix all ingredients in a big stockpot and bring to boil. Leave to cook for 30 to 45 minutes until the turnips are tender. Let it cool and retain the water. When the turnips and apples are lukewarm, blend them in a food processor. The mixture must be (...)

A movie star !

Pink apple 5 July 2009
Red apples have always been featured in great stories full of feeling. Already, in the fairy tales of the brothers Grimm, a red apple symbolises the loss of Snow White.
Temptation, seduction, bewitchment...the apple hypnotises and takes over its victim’s soul. Disney illustrated this notion with brio... The narrative figure was even so effective that Disney used it again in Enchanted ! Apples are often used in motion pictures. For example, in Pirates of the Caribbean , the evil Barbossa offers a red apple to Elizabeth...temptation, once more!

An unusual attraction

Apple of love 5 March 2009
Sorry but apples are not aphrodisiacs! However, they have always had a powerful symbolism at all times.
In Thomas Mallory’s La mort d’Arthur (1485), the apple is associated with the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. It is responsible for the death of five people. In the XIXth century, the Grimm brothers wrote several tales where the apples had a magical and conflicting role. The most famous story was that of Snow White where the Apple not only causes her to fall into a deep sleep but also kindles love making it triumphant... Always red in colour and often magical, the apple represents more than just a mere fruit in popular beliefs. It is also believed that the best magic wands were made from the wood of apple trees. (...)

This is not an apple!

Pink apple 20 January 2009
A little less known than its distant relative “This is not a pipe”, Magritte’s painting takes up the problem.
Created in 1964, "This is not an apple" makes us wonder about the representational value of image and its necessary distance from reality. It is also interesting to note the inception of Pink Lady®, which constantly reminds us that... "It’s so much more than an apple!" http://eu.art.com

Story of the red Big Apple... !

Pink apple 15 August 2008
Everyone knows that New York is also nicknamed the Big Apple. As a fruit bearing the same name, Pink Lady® wished to trace the origin of this nice name.
The story is not very clear. It so appears that John FitzGerald in an article in the New York Morning Telegraph (1921) used the term “Big apple” in “public” for the very first time. The columnist borrowed the expression from stable boys in New Orleans. The New York race courses were so famous that working there was a rewarding experience which they compared to a big apple! Subsequently, jazz musicians used the expression “Big Apple” to refer to their city (and especially Harlem). Big Apple was also a jazz club in Harlem, and a dance that gained popularity in all of United States. It is said that jazzmen referred to a contract as an “apple”. When they were hired to play in New York, they said they bagged the big apple… Lastly, « Big Apple » won the hearts of the people thanks to an (...)
